Another quick post

For the second straight Sunday, this is just going to be a quick post of a few frames from the weekend.

Gettin' our Kicks...

My folks are in town visiting for the week. So I took off work today and tomorrow (to give me a four-day weekend). And we set out yesterday west on Historic Route 66 (from Catoosa, Okla. to Oklahoma City).

I decided not to take a camera and if I wanted to take any pictures, I'd just use my iPhone. I hadn't really used the camera on the iPhone yet, so I didn't really know what it would do. However, I have to admit. This thing actually takes reasonable photos (in daylight, of course). The files are plenty big and the colors aren't half bad.

So anywhoo, here's a short sample of some of the stuff I got while we were gettin' our kicks on Route 66.

The last few frames are from the Oklahoma City National Memorial. I had never seen it, so I asked if we could divert from the trip for just a bit.

Quick Weekend Post

This is going to be short and sweet. I'm just posting a few photos from Saturday and Sunday.

The Heart of The Wal-Mart

Today was the annual Wal-Mart Shareholders Meeting at Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville.

Despite having to be up WAAAAAY earlier than normal for me, I actually enjoyed this. The show was hosted by Queen Latifah and had musical performances from Joss Stone, Jennifer Hudson, David Cook and Tim McGraw.

The Wal-Mart Week

I started off the day wild-art hunting. (You may be sensing a theme here). Found these guys installing some new playground equipment at a park in downtown Bentonville.

Afterwards, it was off The Wal-Mart. With this week being the annual shareholders meeting, they had a "media tour" around one of our local stores where executives talked about various "cost-saving innovations." Yeah, it was REAL exciting. On a side note, there's a crap load of media here from around the world.

And lastly, I had to shoot a quick portrait for a future profiles story.

North Carolina vs Arkansas

OK, I've been in the Natural State for eight months now. So being the "list" kinda guy that I am, I thought I'd make a list of things I miss about N.C. and things Ark. brings to the table that make me happy here.

So, without further ado, here's N.C. (in no particular order after the first one):

• family and friends
• lottery
• Cook Out (the restaurant)
• Western N.C. barbeque (yes, Dan, that's WESTERN N.C. BBQ) :)
• being able to buy beer in the grocery store or gas station
• multiple entities of Bojangles
• Cherry Lemon Sun-Drop
• livermush
• ACC basketball (sorry, SEC)
  
• lower sales tax (and doesn't vary depending on the county/city)
• less tornadoes
  

And Arkansas brings some too (also, no particular order):

• great new friends
  
• beautiful country with PLENTY of outdoorsy opportunities
  
• no inspection sticker for your car
• MANY Wal-Marts (so you're not fighting everyone in the same one)
• it's not Rocky Mount (no offense, RM)
• less humidity (at least so far)
• cheaper gas
• BBQ here is actually pretty good also
  
• MUCH better job (see "it's not Rocky Mount")
  
• no hurricanes (the weather, not the hockey team)
• SEC football (sorry, ACC)
  
• AQ Chicken

So, there you have it. I miss North Carolina. But Arkansas is definitely starting to feel like home.

Puppies!

Today was wild-art hunting day again!

I hung around Benton County all day and just drove from one place to another looking for things but also just seeing areas I haven't been. Granted, what I shot was in places I've been many times.

First I found these guys cleaning the lettering on the side of a Walgreens near Bella Vista. Nothing exciting, but it's not something you see EVERY day, at least.

And finally, I'll admit it. I'm a sucker for cute puppies. Especially when they at are least part dachshund. This little gal (in the middle frame) is a dachshund/chihuahua mix. They referred to her as a chi-weanie.
