The Sun Appears

The sun finally reappeared in Northwest Arkansas -- albeit for about an hour.

My first assignment on the day was a news conference at Root Elementary in Fayetteville where principal Faye Jones announced her resignation from the position where she's spent the last 30 years. She'll join the Children's House Campaign for Children.

Following that, I had a portrait to shoot for an advance story that I'll post later after publication.

Then came another portrait for our weekly personal space column. It's odd that I've shot four of these in the past two weeks myself and only one runs per week. Surely we're caught up on these for a while now.

And finally I went to Leverett Elementary to scoop up some enterprise art where their kindergarten classes were performing their annual musical production.

Streak's Over

Today was definitely a day of ups and downs.

For those that don't already know, we had some cuts in both our newsrooms and some really amazing journalists were put on the streets. But enough of the Debbie Downer.

I started my day looking for some enterprise art and that took me to the Fayetteville Senior Activity Center where I hung out with some ladies playing Bridge.

Following that I went over to Wilson Park in Fayetteville to find something fun. Little did I know what kind of fun I'd find. After watching from the distance for a few minutes I realized what I was seeing was a couple of young ladies playing with their pet sheep. Yes, I said sheep. Only in AR-Kansas will you find people walking and playing with their pet sheep in a city park.

Later in the day, a streak was broken. Since moving to Arkansas I had dodged covering high school baseball. Almost 19 months later, the record halts. I had to cover the Cabot - Bryant 7A playoff game in Springdale.

After spending about four innings there, I drove about a half mile down the road to Arvest Ballpark to catch up with the Naturals in their double-header hosting their cross-state rivals, the Travelers.

Big 'Ole Post

So with a lot going on for the past several days including and excluding work, I haven't gotten around to posting on the blog lately. So here's pretty much everything I've shot over the past few days.

Nats Defy the Forecast

It's a little late so I'm just gonna post some photos from the day. They mostly speak for themselves.

UGA Dawgs are champs

After doing a little busy work in the morning, the rest of my day was centered around UA campus.

First was the SEC women's tennis tournament championship between Georgia and Tennessee where the Dawgs came away victorious over the Vols for their third-straight title.

Following that I went to the music building on campus to make some wild art of the department's guitar recital program.

And last I found some students studying in the Mullins Library for some additional wild art.

SEC Tennis Tourney

Went to get some stand-alone art first as the folks at Lake Fayetteville held their first annual Outdoor Festival.

Following that, I went to shoot semifinal action at the SEC Women's Tennis Tournament. While it's supposed to be held on the outdoor courts, apparently there's just a little too much wind for these girls. And so I get to shoot in the wonderful light in the indoor facility next door.

Nats and Kids

Today was School Kids Day at the Northwest Arkansas Naturals game.

About 7,000 kids filled the seats and outfield lawn as the Nats hosted the Corpus Christi Hooks. And I was there to document it.
