Bald Eagles

I spent most of yesterday afternoon on a boat with a member of the US Army Corps of Engineers out on Beaver Lake chasing bald eagles. This was one of the best assignments I've ever had. I've never actually seen a bald eagle in the wild before this.

Now THOSE are some pants

Started off the day at Owl Creek School where Subway's Jared Fogle came to talk to the students about maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

After that, I found a little enterprise by spotting City of Fayetteville employees taking down the signs marking Honorary MLK Blvd. The city will hold a dedication ceremony on Thursday to officially change Sixth Street to Martin Luther King Jr Blvd.

And finally, I had a portrait with a lady inside Baum Stadium where the Razorbacks play baseball.

Just another Monday

Today was the first day back for UA students for the spring semester. So I started off the morning trying to find something interesting to show this. And I happened upon a campus ministry group handing out coffee and hot chocolate to students walking to campus.

After that, I was on the feature hunt. And I lucked upon this guy painting the curb alongside the parking lot at a Springdale Mexican restaurant.

And finally, my lone assignment on the day, I shot everyone's favorite -- a fun-filled press conference. This one welcomed Erin Aubry as the new head coach of UA women's soccer. As a soccer fan, I'm still bothered by the fact that UA doesn't have a men's soccer program. But that's another soapbox.

New Wal-Mart and other stuff

Just getting in a little update combining the past few days (Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday).

Horns Down!

First things first, then the most important part of the day.

I started off trying to find some enterprise art and wound up at the Walton Arts Center where some munchkins were getting some last minute rehearsals before the opening performance of the traveling production of The Wizard of Oz.

Now onto the evening. I went to cover the Razorbacks men's basketball team take on the No. 7 Texas Longhorns. One week ago, the Hogs pulled off an upset win over then-No. 4 Oklahoma.

Tonight's game was a little different.

Against the Sooners, the Hogs led almost the entire game. Tonight, they maintained a small deficit to the Horns through most of the game -- until late.

The Razorbacks, picked in the pre-season to finish last in the conference have now knocked off two top-10 teams and SEC action hasn't even entered the schedule yet.

Even star football tight end, D.J. Williams (last frame posted), joined the student section in support of the hardwood Hogs.

John Pelphrey may be the best coach in college basketball right now, in my opinion. He's instilled an unbelievable sense of confidence in this young team. And they step onto the court thinking they can beat anyone.

De-Christmasting the town

I hope everyone had a great holiday (whatever your holiday may be) plus a great New Year's.

Today was assignment-less so you know what that means -- enterprise art. I went first over to the Fayetteville Public Library for their weekly meeting of the Baby Book Worms program.

And after that, I went up to the Fayetteville square where Parks & Rec employees were removing lights and decorations. The process takes about three weeks, so I'm sure at least one of us will be back out there again.
